Dear RarePair Writer

First of all, thank you so much for being my writer! I'm going to ramble on a bit generally (probably a lot, actually), then try and write something about why I like these fandoms, and give some ideas I've had about possible stories, but feel free to ignore any or all of it if it's not helpful.

 

The general stuff...

Likes

I really need happy endings. A little angst on the way there is fine, though.

I usually like characters to be friends (or at least frenemies!) on their way to a relationship. I like to see the progression of a relationship between newly-met characters who grow to like and trust each other over time, and eventually would do just about anything for each other, especially when their relationship is somewhat unexpected. How do characters in established relationships deal with daily life, how do they solve conflicts, how do they support and comfort each other when things don't go too well?

I'm particularly partial to humour in my fic. I like characters with a shared sense of humour, especially when used to express affection by people who aren't comfortable discussing 'feelings'. A story absolutely doesn’t have to be funny for me to like it, though: I like angst, arguments, and heartache in small doses, as long as there’s a happy ending.

I love epistolary fic – not necessarily just in the form of actual handwritten letters or diaries; in a modern setting voicemail, emails, texts, blog posts, message board transcripts, Facebook or Twitter posts will work, in any combination.

I enjoy both plot- and character-driven stories. Plots that show off character are perfect – the best of both worlds! I like stories that span an hour and stories that span years. Back story, missing scene fic, prequels, sequels, the same scene from different perspectives, fix-its, canon divergence will be loved. I love ‘five things’ type fics that show off significant moments in characters' lives. I love short fics, long fics, and anything else that takes your fancy.

I love crossovers (both sneaky and overt) and fusions where one set of characters are transplanted to another canonical universe. As long as I know the other canon or canons, I will be delighted. Feel free to use any interest in my profile that takes your fancy (or even more than one – the more the merrier); there are plenty to choose from!

Dislikes 


My biggest squick to the point of phobia is pregnancy (male or female), and I'm majorly triggered by cruelty to animals.

As I said earlier, I really need a story with a happy ending. Some unhappy elements on the way are fine if the outcome is happy, but nothing extremely dark, please. Other things I don't like include deathfic, torture, abuse, vomit, A/B/O and character bashing, kidfic and embarrassment/humiliation.

Not exactly dislikes, but...
I have a bit of a problem with AUs in that the further away an AU gets from canon, the more difficulty I have 'seeing' the characters in my mind's eye. This is especially true if the setting of the AU necessitates tinkering with the characters' names.

Porn preferences

I'll read any rating from G to NC-17. In general, I like romance, and first kisses, and virgins, and vanilla, and all that comes with that – visible nerves, awkwardness, neediness and emotions on high. I'm a sucker for first-time fics.

Kinkier stuff is more than ok, too. Favourite kinks include role play (not age play, though), dubcon (the sort where afterwards they think it was hot, even if consent was problematic at the time), dirty talk, poly, voyeurism, exhibitionism, cross-dressing and erotic spanking. I can also go for mild BDSM (not lifestyle; easily slipping into and out of it is fun, particularly with a humourous slant), light bondage/restraints, public sex/sex where there is a risk of being caught, wax play and toys.

I don't care for scat, watersports, blood, lifestyle D/s, age-play and bestiality.

I got into this as a result of reading my recipient's Yuletide letter and thinking it sounded intriguing. So I decided to watch the first episode on YouTube.... several hours later.... :) To see these two is to love them, while simultaneously busting a gut laughing. Thank you, lamardeuse! It's a reality programme presented by Philip Glenister of 'Life On Mars' fame, and Ant Anstead, who as the blurb on the programme says is 'an internationally renowned car designer' and very easy on the eyes!

To quote from Wikipedia:
"Each show begins with a quick discussion of the car that is to be featured in that episode. Some of the history, and why it is important to British motoring is covered. This is followed by Anstead attempting to locate one of these cars, typically through a barn find, to restore.

As the car is restored by Ant and his team at his car restoration company in Hertfordshire (Evanta Motor Co, although this is never mentioned in the show), Phil looks into the social side of the vehicles, meeting owners' clubs and attending events to get a feel for how the restoration should progress. Phil takes the lead in guiding Ant as to how he would like the restored project to look, but often has his mind changed through discussions with enthusiasts at events.

After the car is restored, Phil and Ant take it for a test drive before they are joined by several similar cars owned by car club members who give their opinions on the restored work. The car is then put on auction at the prestigious Coys of Kensington."

Ant and Phil are hilarious together, and pretty much slash themselves.

Since this is still a new fandom for me, anything you want to tell me about these two will be adored – on-screen, behind the scenes or outside work, getting together, first time or established relationship.

BJ and Charles always strike me as consummate tricksters, pranksters and con artists who complemented each other perfectly in the episodes where they teamed up. Perhaps they might team up to deal with some serious threat to a member or members of the team, or to the 4077th as a whole, and realise in the course of it that there could be more to their relationship.

The combination of Sidney and Mulcahy intrigues me a lot. The two of them are both involved in counseling/comforting others, albeit in different ways, but who can they turn to for support when they're the ones who need the counsel/comfort? I'd like to see the two of them turn to each other, with the relationship between them developing from professional to friendship, and finally to lovers.

Any other characters are more than welcome to make guest appearances.

I definitely shipped all of these relationships while I was watching this season of the show.

For Derrick and Stephen, I think it would be an enemies to frenemies to (maybe reluctant) lovers, and I'd adore seeing that progression.

With Stephen and Gordon, I could see it being love at first sight, expressed in a very aggressive manner :D (if you don't see things that way, I'd be fascinated to read your take on it).

I'm sure Tommy would be ready and willing to dispense useful (or not so useful) advice on getting together to any or all of Gordon, Stephen or Derrick, whether or not he was asked, perhaps even offer practical demonstrations which might lead to his involvement in the shenanigans.

I'm not sure that Graham would need any advice – he and Tommy seem to me to be birds of a feather, though Graham is less flamboyant than Tommy.

Please feel free to include Christina and/or any other contestants that you want to.

This is another fairly new-to-me fandom where I'm open to any story you want to tell.

I love the TV show Monkees! (I love them irl too, but I want a story in the TV show setting.) Whichever relationship you choose to write about, maybe make it a romp, have them taking on villains (whether knowingly or by accident), supporting each other with any problems they might have, hanging out together at the beach house, taking a drive in the Monkeemobile, playing a gig, generally just being lovers and having fun.

 

If you go for a pairing as opposed to the foursome, it would be nice if the other two were around and being supportive (or even paired up themselves). And if you do go for the four of them slashed together, give me a big cuddly puppy pile of love and friendship!

 

Also, if you could write Peter as something along the lines of shy, really absent-minded and/or hopelessly innocent/naive rather than as thick as two short planks, I will love you forever!

I was lucky enough to see Siegfried & Roy's show in Las Vegas a couple of times in the 90s - I'd gone there to see the Moody Blues at Caesar's, and a gay friend told me that if I loved the Moodies I'd love S&R – and he was so right! The animals and the illusions were amazing, the staging and costumes were gorgeous, and the rapport between the two of them warmed the cockles of my shippy little heart.

From what I found out from googling the hell out of them when I got back from Vegas, their relationship was one of those 'secrets that everybody knows except the people who don't want to'. A few people said they'd split up and just had a business partnership, but I hoped that either it wasn't true or they'd get back together. I'd always meant to go back to Vegas to see them a 3^rd time (and more), but then Roy had his accident :'-( I heard bits and pieces about them from time to time, and rewatched the DVDs I have of them and reread their autobiography (which is itself a masterpiece of misdirection). But then a little while ago I found and bought the magazine which had this 10-years-later interview (thank you ebay!) and it kicked my shippiness for them back into high gear:

I was particularly taken with these comments from the interview:

Asked if the duo is like a couple married for decades, Siegfried swiftly agrees. “Ya,” he says. “It is 55 years for us. It was not always like this for us. We have had our ups and downs, but when I am home, it’s Roy’s home, too.”
"We are still a team,” Roy says, as if completing the thought.

How is the fable of Siegfried and Roy anything but a love story?
“It is that, yes,” Siegfried says. “I never realized I was good until I met Roy. I always just tried to be good, but I never really knew I was good until we became a team. The way I grew up, I really had no confidence in what I was doing.”

“I was once asked if I was happy, with all of the success we have had, and I said, ‘I am happy when I am onstage,’” Siegfried says. Then he stops walking. “Yes. Okay. But that is only three hours of a day, when we were onstage. The day has 24 hours. Now, I have to work and am working still to be 24 hours happy. It has worked, because I am with Roy. You know, even when we signed a contract, it was always ‘Siegfried & Roy,’ like a marriage.”

 

All of this started my hankering after fanfic for them. Possible ideas:

A story where they look back on the ups and downs they have had from where they are in the interview, at peace with their lives and each other and looking forward with hope for the future

A fix it fic where the accident didn't happen, or Roy recovered completely

Magical realism AU – they really are magicians/animal whisperers – either in a magical setting, or in real world (do they need to hide their abilities? How do they hide?) Please no werewolf AUs,

Soul-bonding would be interesting

Or any combination of these

Or any other fic you care to write – just let it end with them happily together :)
