I'm only really familiar with Galaxy Quest, and have heard a bit about Buckaroo Banzai, but I was still able to enjoy this story. I love the interplay between the various characters, especially the way the OC (I'm assuming) family at the beginning interact as an everyday family, including the little girl imitating her parents, while doing a summoning ritual! I also like the descriptions of the Galaxy Quest cast when they show up, and how they manage to defeat the baddy almost by accident!
